Steve and Callum’s Story

Steve and Callum and some of the children/parents are taking part in Parallel London to help raise some money for post op physiotherapy for one of our players, Max Seaman, who is seven and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was two. Max is having a life changing operation on 15 August at Great Ormond Street Hospital called a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). The operation will reduce the spasticity and stiffness in his legs and it is hoped that it will help him achieve his goal of walking and running without his walking frame. The operation isn’t available on the NHS and Max’s parents are paying for it out of their own pocket. To get the best out of this surgery, Max will need a lot of post-op physiotherapy which the NHS will not provide so this will have to be paid for privately too.
Basildon Frame Football was formed in August 2015 by Steve Branch. Steve had attended the world’s first frame football tournament day in Coventry with his son, Callum, hosted by the founder of frame football the late Richard Seedhouse in July 2015. Callum who has cerebral palsy and loves football had been trying to find something like this for a long time. The day was fantastic and Callum loved playing football with children all using frames just like himself. Steve approached Basildon Soccability Football Club Chairman, John Smith, who agreed to allow Steve to be part of their disability programme.
In August 2015, Steve held the first training session in Basildon with five children attending. The Club grew in numbers very quickly and at present we have 16-18 children who attend fortnightly sessions.
We also attend tournaments at St George’s Park in Burton-on-Trent, the home of our national team, to play other frame football teams from across the country and also teams from Ireland, Scotland and even from Malta.
Basildon have been national champions in the 5-8-year-old category two to three times and we are unbeaten champions in the 13-16 year old category for two years.
All children are welcome who use a frame and love to play football; everyone is included and welcome to this wonderful team.
If anybody is interested in more information or to come along to a training session, please contact Steve on mob. +44 (0) 7747 001 004.
